Saturday, January 6, 2007 ENGLEWOOD – Mayor Michael Wildes appointed five residents to the Planning
Board on Thursday night, cementing his control over the nine-member body
that oversees construction and urban growth. The board also has two alternate
members.
The most notable appointment was the Rev. Dr. Vernon Walton, who
lost his council seat to Assemblyman Gordon Johnson. He will serve for
four years. Other appointees are Jordan Comet, a former school board member
(four-year seat); Warren Finkel, who owns a computer networking company
(four-year seat); Leland Robinson, son of Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia
Robinson (two-year alternate seat); and City Clerk Lenore Schiavelli (one-year
seat reserved for city employees).
In Englewood, the mayor has no council vote but has the sole power
to appoint the Planning Board. He also appoints the seven-member Board
of Adjustment, but those nominations must be approved by the council.
Wildes has nominated attorney Howard Shafer to the Board of Adjustment.
He also nominated an alternate member, the Rev. Marcus Small, to a full
seat and architect David Maron, now a full member, to an alternate seat.
