Englewood – Last week Englewood, New Jersey Mayor Michael Wildes turned 40 and friends and constituents numbering nearly 1,000 came out on November 24th to attend the Mayor’s birthday celebration and listen to a speech by U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman then dance the night away to a performance by legendary rap performers The Sugar Hill Gang.

Looking out at the ethnically diverse audience Lieberman reflected on his campaign for Vice President in 2000:

“I was standing before a vast group much like this and in that crowd I saw a sign that simply said ‘Viva Chutzpah’”, said the senator. “That was a sign of unity and because of Michael’s integrity and dedication the people of Englewood have come together in unity in his first year as mayor.”

Wildes’ birthday bash was a Tri-State area event. In addition to Connecticut’s U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, New York City Council Speaker Gifford Miller as well as local New Jersey mayors, county and state officials attended. The guests also included hundreds and hundreds of men, women and children from all four wards of the City of Englewood.

The Sugar Hill Gang performed for nearly an hour.

Many told Mayor Wildes that it was the most memorable birthday party they had ever attended, to which the Mayor responded: “It certainly has been the most memorable birthday party I ever expect to have in my life.”
